The latest from the heavy rotation department: The XX

Damn. It isn't often that I open a CD, pop it in and fall instantaneously head over heels. It happened with Hot Chip's "The Warning" and Cat Power's "You Are Free". Weezer's Green Album way back in the day... and Tegan and Sara's "So Jealous".
More recently Bon Iver's "For Emma" and Band of Horse's "Everything all the Time".
Today? Today it's The XX.
Four 20-year-olds out of Notting Hill. Killin' it.
The music can be kind of dark and emotional (a la Charissa's Weird, but not so "I'm going to jump out the window now") but also a little poppy and melodic and sweet.
I was too cheap to buy the import (it came out on August 17th) and now I kind of regret it. Oh well, live and learn - the US version released earlier this week and landed in my mailbox thanks to a handy pre-order.
Prepare for Heavy Rotation, XX!
Check 'em out and listen to some tracks on their MySpace page. So far I like "Crystalized" and "VCR" but the truly sweet thing about the album is that you can listen to it front-to-back and never be unhappy. A great studio disc for sure.
