I'm rounding up all the grit, glimmer and glory in my life and putting it in one handy spot. I present to you my new blog: Grit and Glimmer.

In a few weeks, HeidiSwift.com will redirect there and all of the posts here will move there as well. Grit and Glimmer is the reincarnation of the blog I started in 2004, The Everyday Athlete Blog. Check out this post to learn more about the change.

Here's the concept:

Two chefs, 12 (?) friends, one cozy Portland house, a fireplace, an army of wine bottles, stunning artisan cocktails, a menu inspired by a book and a movie.

Did I mention the chefs? They're important. They make the food. This isn't just any food - this is food that will leave a mark on you forever. Flavors that take you by the shoulders, look deep into your eyes and wake you up. This is a celebration of taste and flavor and texture and everything that was ever good about anything you ever put in your mouth.

It's conversation and laughter and community with people that you just met. You don't know how you got there, why you were invited, or what you ever did to be so fucking lucky so you just sit back and let it roll. Because sometimes life is warm and soft and delicious. And you deserve it.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://heidiswift.com/blog/2009/10/9/his-name-is-stefano-i-love-this-neighborhood.html"><rss:title>His name is Stefano. It isn't often that I open a CD, pop it in and fall instantaneously head over heels. It happened with Hot Chip's "The Warning" and Cat Power's "You Are Free". Weezer's Green Album way back in the day... and Tegan and Sara's "So Jealous".

More recently Bon Iver's "For Emma" and Band of Horse's "Everything all the Time".

Today? Today it's The XX.

Four 20-year-olds out of Notting Hill. Killin' it.

The music can be kind of dark and emotional (a la Charissa's Weird, but not so "I'm going to jump out the window now") but also a little poppy and melodic and sweet.

I was too cheap to buy the import (it came out on August 17th) and now I kind of regret it. Oh well, live and learn - the US version released earlier this week and landed in my mailbox thanks to a handy pre-order.

Prepare for Heavy Rotation, XX!

Check 'em out and listen to some tracks on their MySpace page. So far I like "Crystalized" and "VCR" but the truly sweet thing about the album is that you can listen to it front-to-back and never be unhappy. A great studio disc for sure.
</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://heidiswift.com/blog/2009/10/8/this-is-just-to-say.html"><rss:title>This is just to say...</rss:title><rss:link>http://heidiswift.com/blog/2009/10/8/this-is-just-to-say.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Uncategorized</dc:subject>
One of my all-time favorite poems. This is Just to Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

Over the top and crazy. Three tall piles of work followed by five more tall piles of follow-up. I'm back home now and tired. I'm back home now with a tick-list of "shit to do" a mile long.

It will all get done - it always does.

In the meantime? The bed at Treasure Island ruined me. Those sheets, that pillowtop. Sweetbabyjesus what's a girl to do?

Our first night back we tossed and turned and make grumpy faces on our heads.

But then?

We went to a mall (proper style!) and laid down for a squishy mattress pad, 5 trillion thread count sheets, and a coupla contour-space-age-wtf pillows extraordinaire.

Sleepin? It's important. You gotta zone like zombie-style night-of-the-living-dead. Naps are one-trillion percent improved and the cats refuse to relocate. I'm going to sleep until 2013.

Thanks to my buddy CopyMatt for the link to CreamTeam. Now I'm stuck listening to Yes Giantess from their MySpace site and wondering how in the hell to get a copy of the CD.

Yummy melodic pop and a few killer remixes. Favorite tracks so far: Tuff N Stuff and Can't Help It.

You can listen to their remix of Passion Pit's Sleephead via this Creamteam stream. (Turn this up and try not to dance.) Killah!
